Gratitude Tuesday: Unknown

X

I think everyone has heard the following:

"Everything that's happening is supposed to be happening" or "It's about the journey, not the destination". And we're supposed to take comfort in these phrases.

The more I think about those things the more I find them to be true. However, I use the universe as my reason for the unknown. I often think:

"The universe will bring it to me when I'm ready"
"The universe is trying to teach me a lesson"
"The universe must have brought this person or thing into my life for a reason"
"The universe is recongizing my karama" and so on...

So, what does that make me? Religious? Careless? Faithful? Unaccountable? Existential? Metaphysical?

I would like to believe that I am a universalist who takes trust and delight in the unknown. Which somedays is just a nice way of saying: I don't know what the hell is going on but I'll find some kind of humor in the unknown until I can wrap my head around my often strange life.

Twenty Five Things: Characture

Some of my twenty five before twenty five are really ridiculous, like this:

Yeah, unfortunately I'm that corny. Or maybe fortunately? Unless you happened to be with me while I was getting it drawn, then that's unfortunate for you because:
a) Lots of people felt the need to stare at me like a zoo animal
b) I was pretty darn giddy and couldn't stop laughing during it
c) You had to let the general public know that we're friends, embarrassing...

I didn't realize I had a such a giant forehead until this was drawn. Maybe I should get bangs to cover that monster up. Although, the man who sketched me advised that I make a few hundred copies for all my boyfriends. Flattery works on me because I gave him a nice wink and a tip. Oh boy!

What's Your Favorite?

I've been lagging on blog posts this week and I read Liz's fill in the blank post and decided it would be a quick way to get another post without much planning or thought. I know, lame, but I've been busy. Or at least that's my story...

1. Favorite Hobby?

I love going to shows. Music makes me really happy. I don't care if I know who the band is or what style of music it is (well, sometimes I care).

2. Favorite TV show?

The Office is ridiculous, it makes me smile every Thursday and any girl who doesn't want a Jim of her own is either in denial or has no need to want because she already has hers... jerk.

3. Favorite restaurant food?

Chow Mein? Good. Affirmation wrapped in a yummy cookie? Good.

4. Favortie thing to shop for?

I had a tomboy phase for um... forever until about 3 years ago and now I'm obsessed with wearing dresses and rarely wear pants.

5. Favorite animal?

This was a hard decision because there are so many photos of cute puppies that I would love to make mine...

6. Favorite song?

In My Life by The Beatles is my favorite song of all time. Look up the lyrics and you'll see why.

7. Favorite word?

I almost never get to say it but pamplemousse is one of my most favorite words.

8. Recent favorite YouTube video?

Being Mexi-talian I happen to do an awesome chola impression, I even named my alter ego Rosa. She pretty much sounds just like this chick. "Don't be talkin' to me like you know me!"

9. Favorite movie?

I could watch Almost Famous a million times and never get sick of it.

10. Favorite childhood memory?

On family road trips my Grandma would sit in the backseat with my brother and I. Growing up in a rural area we would always pass by ranches and whenever we drove past a ranch with a white horse she would say "White horses are good luck, spit in your hand, make a fist with the other & rub in into your palm and make a wish." So, we would pretend to spit in our hand and smash it into the other and make a wish. Every time I see a white horse I think about this and make a wish.

Want to play along? Copy & paste the prompts below, answer each with a photo and a description.

1. Favorite hobby?
2. Favorite tv show?
3. Favorite restaurant food?
4. Favorite thing to shop for?
5. Favorite animal?
6. Favorite song?
7. Favorite word?
8. Recent favorite youtube video?
9. Favorite movie?
10. Favorite childhood memory?

Catchphrase

Catchphrase is defined as a phrase or expression recognized by its repeated utterance.

I tend to utter this far too often:

Lame.

It usually sounds dragged out like "laaame" and I'll use it to express frustration and annoyance. Ex: "Internet Explorer is lame, I wish everyone would stop using it."  On the flip side, it can also be used to express jealousy or disapproval. Ex: You just told me you're going on an all expense paid trip to Hawaii. My reply would be "LAAAME!"

Realizing that I say lame far to often I've thought about making a conscious decision to start using something else but have since convinced myself that saying lame sounds much more intelligent than repeating another phrase often overused by others like "stupid" or "gay". That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

What is your catchphrase?

Free Time Gets Weird

I'm not very good at having free time. As much as I may dream of having a break with nothing to do, I honestly can't handle it. Whenever I have a totally free moment I end up feeling restless and my mind takes me places I didn't know I had.

Now sometimes that mind travel can be great, other times it can be bad and then there are times like today when it's just plain weird.

While on my lunch break at work I actually took a real break instead of working through my lunch, reading a book, listening to my iPod, or talking/texting someone I know who isn't busy. It was just me, my food and my thoughts. Thoughts like:

"Has Angela Lansbury been old her entire life? It's like she found the secret of never aging only she found it when she was 65 and has to stay a senior citizen permanently."

"When do clothes become laundry and laundry become clothes?"

"Why is hair gross when it's not on your head? It's my own hair but once it's on a comb or gotten loose and found on an item of clothing it's instantly disgusting."

"Sometimes people will refer to a group of men hanging out together as a 'sausage fest', what do people say about a group of women hanging out? The first thing that comes to mind is 'taco stand' and the fact that that's the first thing I can think of creeps ME out."

Luckily, I only have 30 minutes for lunch so I didn't get much further than that. Lord knows how much other weird stuff I could have dug up. This is why even in my downtime I need to remain in a constant state of activity.

Gratitude Tuesday: Kiss

Found through StumbleUpon, anyone know who made the original?
Note: Since it's Valentine's week I've decided to make every post this week about love. I know, I know, it's kind of nauseting but everyone no matter who you are loves love in some way shape or form so get over it and just enjoy a moment of sweetness that might make you barf.

I like this quote a lot because all kisses should be this way, whether they're on the cheek, hand, blown in the air, sweet, simple, soft, tender or passionate. Kisses for hellos, goodbyes and everything in between. A kiss with a purpose is a wonderful thing.

Gratitude Tuesday: Music

I don't think I've found a better quote to define what music means to me—a sweet escape; a way to fill up moments where words would only fail. I really wish that every moment of everyday could be filled with music. Growing up I used to envision life like a big musical, there would always be a song to define every moment and everyone would always know each eight count dance move and never forget a lyric.

I wonder if other people do this? I would like to think everyone does, maybe they don't envision a grand musical but instead they associate music with life. In the kind of way that makes you tie someone, something, someplace, some moment to a song. They're the kind of songs that you can't listen to anymore because they break your heart or the kind of songs that take you back to that exact moment where you can remember what the weather was like, what you were wearing, how you felt, the sights, sounds, smells, tastes etc.

I really wish that every moment of everyday could be filled with music.

Wish List

Since I won't be out shopping with all the crazies on Black Friday I figured a wish list of the things I would like to have this year would be fitting.

First, the things that are unrealistic to add to my wish list:

Macbook Pro:

It's so shiny and pretty, who wouldn't want one?

Nissan Versa:

I don't know why I like you so much but I want you to be mine.

John Kransinski & Glenn Howerton Hybrid:

Ahhhhh... uh, I got lost in my fantasy, where was I?

Now for the things I really want (Well, I want the things above but that's not gonna happen... at least not anytime soon. A girl can dream though, right?):

Polaroid Notes:
I love sending letters and these are adorable, although I think I would have a hard time sending them since they are so fun.

Turntable:
I have lots of records begging to be played & turned into mp3s on this little guy.

Very Sunny Christmas:
If I can't have a John/Glenn Hybrid then I should at least have this.

500 Days of Summer:
Zooey is my fashion muse. Thus, I need this to stay inspired.

Journal:
I want a fancy leather bound journal for my next 365-esque project.

And if someone could figure out how to give me the gift of time/money to spend on the things I enjoy with the people I love then you can forget alll that other stuff because that's what I really want.

So, what's on your wish list?

Work Shmerk: Fancy

No Music Monday post today. Mostly because I got caught up doing other things and by the time I realized it was Monday I wasn't feeling motivated to write an entire post about a band.

I would say that I was too busy to do a MM post but really this is what I did at work today:

If you don't know about Fancy, here is a quick run down:

  • She is a brat.
  • She believes that my sole purpose in the office is to play, pet and pay attention to her.
  • She thinks that anything I'm doing she should be doing too including: sitting in front of my computer monitor, trying to "meow" in the phone while I'm taking a conference call, chewing on my paperwork and trying to eat/drink my food during my lunch break.
I suppose we could consider this post to be a MM since there is awesome New Orleans style music playing in the background....

Gratitude Tuesday: Perfectly Imperfect

X

Today I'm feeling grateful for the little things that other people do that may not seem loveable, special, cute etc. but somehow they are because you love them.

I'm a firm believer that everyone feels this way about the people they love. It's the loud annoying laugh that comforts you when you're feeling down, the outlandish hand gestures that make even the most boring story interesting, the intense squint that lets you know they're thinking long and hard before giving you an answer that wont have them in hot water, the sigh that signals annoyance but they'll never admit it.....

I could go on and on. Whether its a significant other, best friend, family memeber, or co-worker it all counts. So, what are some not so "loveable" things that you love about your favorite person/people?

Gratitude Tuesday: Happiness

Every Tuesday (if I can keep to my own schedule) will be Gratitude Tuesday. This has been inspired by a recent website project. The project is all about affirmations and how you can transform your life through positivity. Makes sense, right? I thought so. Gratitude Tuesday will be affirmations, quotes, shout outs to the people and things I’m grateful for, stuff to make you smile, laugh, think etc. Basically, anything that is positive. There is so much in my day that is stressful/weighted with responsibility so why not take some time at least once a week to reflect on the good things in life both big and small?

Nicknames

I haven't blogged in over a month. Actually, that isn't entirely true. I ghost write several blogs and have been crazy busy with work so that is my excuse for not writing on this blog. Deal with it.

I got into a discussion about nicknames in which I declared that I didn't have any only to realize that I have several. After thinking about it, most people have something specific that they call me by for their own particular reasons, I only wish I could remember what those reasons were. In any case, I made a mental list that will now be a blog list:

  • Ang
  • Poo-ca-roo
  • J
  • Angel-a
  • Angeluh
  • Tangela
  • gella
  • AJ
  • Angelimaca
  • Angeler
There is more but they get more and more embarrassing... The most obvious nickname you would think I would have no one ever calls me. Which would be Angie. I guess I just don't look like an Angie or just haven't met anyone yet who would think to refer to me as such. My personal favorite has always been Ang, I don't know why, I just like it. But I enjoy all of them because they are all used by specific people, who I know have a perfectly logical reason as to why they call me what they do. The way the mind works and why we do/say what we do just fascinates me. Which leads me to this:
My computer monitor is going to be so effed up... just another day at the office!

I didn't want to finish that anyway.

Honestly, this doesn't happen to anyone else at work. I had to clean and refill my glass 3 times before I gave up. First time, shame on her for taking advantage of my unattended glass. Second time, shame on me for thinking placing a sheet of paper over the top would stop her. Third time, who would have thought she would knock a book off the top the glass. Not me, that's for sure. Maybe it's a sign that I shouldn't leave my desk or it's a reminder to never forget my Nalgene at home.

Either way, I don't trust cats.

Randomly breaking into song...

or why my brother is awesome.

While talking about how there aren’t any of the good old Disney cartoons on On Demand a yawn entered the conversation, to which I fake yawned back and received another fake yawn in return and all of a sudden my brother and I are singing “Meeermaid” as if it’s totally normal and then jump back into our previous conversation without missing a beat. I love my brother.

On a totally non-related subject, Modest Mouse is going to be in town and although I have already seen them live it seems like a waste not to take advantage of the fact that they will literally be down the street. Someone should come with me. That someone should probably be you. No, not you. The other guy, yes you!

Apples to Apples

I ran across this a while ago and it still makes me smile. Playing Apples to Apples with far too many drinks into the wee hours of the morning are definitely moments that I miss with a few amazing friends. I'm almost 100% certain that this was caught on tape during this time of year exactly one year ago. This is the kind of stuff that makes me miss college.

Sidenote: I have a horrible fake English accent and a terribly empty apartment. Don't judge me, I was a poor college student and now I'm a poor college grad but that's a whole other topic.

I swear it's not a pyramid scheme

This week has been random and busy. Both of which I have enjoyed very much!

I have been informed that the multi-level marketing company (some may say pyramid scheme, but I swear it isn't) that is run within the company that I work for has a new edition to our fleet of wrapped cars ( by "wrapped" I mean the cars that have the vinyl advertisements plastered all over them):

I've decided that I'm going to weasel my way into going for a spin. It would be a crime not to ride in it.

Homely & Hideous

I thought this was really funny and had to share it even though it's only funny at my expense.

A quick back story: A co-worker of mine wants to include a photo of each of us in the office with a short bio and our favorite product from one of our web sites (1 of 30 & counting that I get the awesome task of marketing/managing). He sent this email out to everyone in the office explaining why we should do it and an example link of what he was referring too. Low and behold my name gets tossed in there. Awesome.

"I was just on this site and I remembered that we were talking briefly about a contact us section for the SHP site (and possibly the other sites). This is the idea that I had. http://www.godoggygo.com/pages.php?pID=6&osCsid=be9c9060fd8989fbc704e07289f60cfe Everyone in the office could take a picture with a pet. It’s not a necessity or anything but I personally think it adds a fun, personal touch… and we’re all pretty attractive people (myself especially) and I think that makes a difference as well. Not any of us are homely or hideous (except maybe Angela, but only on a bad day)… ok, it goes like this………. when I saw Christopher’s picture I instantly wanted to buy about 50,000 toothbrushes… and move to Montana… next door to him…… and buy some binoculars. That’s all I’m saying. All because of a silly little contact us section on their site."

Can you feel the love? I know I do.

On a whim

lIn the past few days all my normal personality traits have been completely abandoned. I have been staying up late (I’m usually fast asleep by 11:00pm at the latest. I know, I’m an old lady), partly because my mind wont rest and because I am rekindling my love of Late Night with Conan O’Brien. I got my hair cut on a whim. I had a dream in which I had short hair so I went with it and just chopped it off. Normally I would obsess over the matter and plan it all out before even considering changing a thing. To top it all off I’m waaay behind on the whole holiday season thing. I usually have all my shopping done in advance and would be well on my way to baking up a storm of things that I shouldn’t be eating in the first place. Instead, I just realized that both Christmas and my birthday are fast approaching and neither of them are first on my list of priorities. I have a feeling this means I’m getting old or am just far too busy. Either way, I need to kick it into high gear and start acting like its Christmas time before it’s too late and be forced to fight for gifts on Christmas Eve with the rest of the slackers.

In other news, I really want to see this:
